Venkat Prabhu not directing 'Mankatha' Hindi remake

Venkat Prabhu 'Mankatha'
It was officially announced that Thala Ajith's blockbuster Mankatha is all set to be remade in Bollywood soon and if our sources are to be believed, Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar are the top contenders.

Rumours were rife that Venkat Prabhu will take up "Mankatha" remake once he completes his forthcoming Tamil movie "Masss" starring Surya.

But we hear, Filmmaker Venkat Prabhu, who is wrapping up Tamil thriller "Masss", won't direct the Hindi remake of his own film "Mankatha". The makers are searching for a suitable replacement to helm the project.

"The remake of 'Mankatha' will be produced by Studio Green in association with a top studio. Venkat Prabhu won't direct the Hindi version as he's busy with multiple projects," a source from the film's told.

"The makers are busy zeroing in on the director and the lead cast for the project," the source said.

Since both Salman and Akshay have recently played cop roles, they're given the first priority. The makers are yet to approach them, but it's most likely going to be either of them, says insider news. Sources reveal that Randeep Hooda may be approached again if Salman Khan is finalised for the project.

Randeep will reprise the role originally essayed by Arjun in the Tamil version. Since the combination of Salman and Randeep worked in Kick, they could be teamed up again to perfectly fit the story about two friends who become partners in crime. The cast will be finalised soon, added the source.

Mankatha was one of the biggest hits in Ajith's career and resurrected his image after a bevy of flops. It was one of the most successful multi-starrers in Tamil cinema.
