Actress Lakshmi Menon will be seen playing Tamil superstar Ajith Kumar’s sister in the actor’s yet-untitled 56th film, which is expected to go on floors soon.

There have been reports of a strong sister-brother sentiment running through the storyline and director Siva is keen on having a top heroine as Ajith’s sister.

“The makers have finally zeroed in on Lakshmi Menon for the role of Ajith’s sister. Nithya Menen was initially offered the role but she turned it down for reasons unknown,” a source from the film’s unit told IANS.

Lakshmi Menon is one of the fast growing actresses in Kollywood today. Her best choices are for low-budget films with homely roles. Considered to be one of the lucky heroine in Tamil film industry acted in movies like "Sundarapandian", "Kumki", "Kutti Puli", "Pandianadu", "Jigarthanda" and last seen in Karthi's "Komban". This is the first time that she will be working with an A-list star.

However, Lakshmi Menon has been playing female leads and her decision to play the secondary role has come as a surprise to many.

Anirudh Ravichander, the young music sensation, has been roped in to compose tunes for the movie. Sources close to the team says Anirudh has already delivered the rocking theme track as soon as he committed for the film.

To be directed by Siruthai Siva and produced by AM Rathnam, the film features Shruti Haasan as the female lead.The movie was launched on 9 April. The regular shooting will begin on 20th of this month.

This is the second time Siva and Ajith have teamed up after their last successful outing “Veeram”.
