7 ‘Amma’ theaters in Chennai officially announced
After Jayalalitha sworn in as Chief Minister of Tamilnadu, she started many schemes to help poverty line peoples as well as middle-class families.

The successful launches of public welfare benefits are, “Amma Unavagam, Amma Salt, Amma Cement, and Amma drinking water” were opened to help the public to consume at a an affordable prices.

These things have gained wide acceptance among the people, hence preparations have begin to start several projects underway in the name of the “Amma”.

In this queue, on behalf of her, Chennai Corporation is in the planning to built ‘Amma’ theaters primarily in Chennai. The announcement about this had already been published by Chennai Mayor.

In 2014, the civic body had announced Amma theatres to provide entertainment for residents at an affordable cost. The airconditioned theatres will screen U-certified Tamil movies and offer tickets at less than 25. An official said the seating capacity and parking facilities will depend on the availability of land. "All theatres will be equipped with canteen, toilets and other facilities. Tickets will be available only through the counters," he said.

Corporation officials say they have finalised seven locations — T Nagar, Basin Bridge, Kotturpuram, Ramapuram, Pulianthope, Kodambakkam and Wall Tax Road — to set up Amma theaters in the first phase and are awaiting the state government's approval.

Initially, the place had been chose near Thiyagaraya Busstand where they planned to build a multiplex complex cum theater. Whereas, in Kodambakkam, Kotturpuram, Ramapuram, Pulianthope, Wall-tax road and Basin bridge have chosen more to build the ‘Amma Theater’.

The plan has been sent to State approval to build a theater in the above mentioned seven areas. Upon approval, construction will be started immediately.
