‘Purampokku’ & ’36 Vayadhinile’ opens on a positive note [Box Office Report]

Last Friday, the theatres had good celebration with couple of exceptional movies hitting screens.

One happened to be Vijay Sethupathi-Arya-Shaam starrer ‘Purampokku’ directed by SP Jhananathan and produced by UTV Motion Pictures too released on the same date. The film got huge appreciations for it spoke about the communism and great performance of the lead actors. Nevertheless, the film critics are praising this film, but it is not the best at its level among the commercial film lovers.”

On the pars, the comeback movie of Jyotika titled ’36 Vayadhinile’, remake of Rosshan Andrews ‘How old are you’ produced by Suriya under the banner of 2D Entertainment. The film speaks about the women empowerment and was presented in a beautiful manner.

The reviews for this film have been flashing with positive reports and almost all the theatres in Chennai and other metropolitan cities are spangled with bright scenario, but the village audiences aren’t so much showing up favourable response to this.

BOX OFFICE

"Purampokku Engira Podhuvudamai" has emerged as a big winner at the Chennai box office. The multi-starrer film has managed to beat other releases like "36 Vayadhinile".

Purampokku mints ₹69.62 lakh in the opening weekend, leading online reports says. It had 177 shows and remained the biggest crowd puller in the weekend in Chennai.

Meanwhile, Jyothika's comeback film "36 Vayadhinile" collected ₹52.86 lakh from 138 shows and bagged the second place at the Chennai box office.

Overseas

"Purampokku" is leading among Tamil films in the United Kingdom (UK) and Ireland. The movie has made £10, 151 (₹10.14 lakh) in its first weekend (15- 17 May) from 12 screens.

In Australia, "36 Vayadhinile" has made its presence felt by collecting A$ 36,603 (₹18.63 lakh) from eight screens.

In Malaysia, which is probably the biggest market for Tamil cinema after Tamil Nadu, the weekend gross collection of "36 Vayadhinile" is estimated at MYR 154,737 (₹27.59 lakh) from 20 screens. "Puramapokku" is ranked second, with collection of MYR 59, 834 (₹10.67 lakh).
