'Theri' Kerala rights sold for a record price

The expectation meter for actor Vijay's Tamil film Theri is hitting new heights everyday. The theatrical release rights of areas across the globe are selling like hot cakes and the latest is Kerala considered as the fort of the Ilayathalapathy and his fans in Kerala are eagerly awaiting the movie's release.

Now, the latest news is that Friday Film House, the production company of actor-producers Vijay Babu and Sandra Thomas, in association with Carnival Pictures, has bagged the Kerala rights of the 'Ilayathalapathy' film for a record price.

Entertainment journalist Haricharan Pudipeddi tweeted the news and said that the amount is tipped to be the highest for a Vijay's film in Kerala.

Sources said that the amount is Rs 5.6 crore.

Vijay Babu, on his Facebook account, announced the news, sharing a photo of Sandra Thomas and him holding a poster of Theri.

Actor Vijay is extremely popular in Kerala and three top film industry celebrities buying the release rights of Vijay starrer is more than a proof for the star's phenomenal fan following in Kerala.

With this, the distribution rights of 'Theri' have been sold in four major locations USA, Canada, Coimbatore and Kerala in Tamil while the rights of the Telugu dubbed version has been acquired by Sri Venkateshwara Creations who will be releasing it in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

Directed by Atlee, Theri has two heroines opposite Vijay – Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Amy Jackson.

The film also stars veteran filmmaker Mahendran. G.V. Prakash has composed the tunes for the film, which happens to be his 50th album.

'Theri' is getting ready to hit the screens massively on April 14, 2016 as a grand Tamil New Year treat.
