A complaint was lodged at the Trichy Police Commissioner's Office on behalf of All India Hindu Mahasabha toward actor Vijay Sethupathi for alleged defamation of the Hindu temples.

According to the petition, they have stated that actor Vijay Sethupathi, who appeared on Sun TV's "Namma Ooru Hero" telecasted on 17.3.2019, said in the program that "the according to the rituals gods bathing are shown to people as ritual then why do they not show while changing for gods in the Hindu temples." Vijay Sethupathi had said that a small girl asked her granddad why they don't allow her to see gods being dressed up when they are showing them bathing.

Manikandan B the secretary of All India Hindu Maha Sabha has stated that Vijay Sethupathi's speech hurt the sentiments of the Hindus and is a direct attack on religious practices done for ages. Also, they said that the Hindu religion is not for self-promotion, there are various other ways to become popular. He has requested the police commissioner to take severe action that will work as a deterrent for actors and those belonging to other religions trying to gain publicity by speaking against Hindu gods.
Wonder why Manikandan complaints about the speech in the program that was telecasted more than a year ago. May be because Vijay Sethupathi supported Suriya’s wife Jyothika’s controversial statement on Indian temples? or Manikandan was in a coma for a year.

Netizens have unearthed a video of the late Crazy Mohan well known for his passion towards the Hindu religion and his scholarly knowledge in it saying the exact joke in a speech he made during one of his drama shows. The question raised is why the backlash is coming to Vijay Sethupathi and why the same people were silent when spoken by the late veteran.

Vijay Sethupathi is one of the most celebrated actor in Tamil cinema who is fondly called as the Makkal Selvan by his fans. Recently Kamal Haasan in an online interaction hailed him as the next big actor in Kollywood and appreciated his experimental choice of roles and not falling into an image trap.
