Kamal - Shankar's 'Indian 2' dropped?

Indian 2
Kamal Haasan was last seen on silver screen in 'Vishwaroopam II'. The actor was busy in politics and he didn't have any movies for last two years.

The legendary actor started working on 'Indian 2', the sequel of the mega-hit film 'Indian' with director Shankar, bankrolled by Lyca productions. 'Indian 2' was indeed one of the most anticipated films. The official announcement about the film was made in 2017, and it started rolling in the first half last year.

The shooting of the film was stopped after an unexpected accident which killed three technicians, that occurred on the sets of the film EVP film City on the outskirts of Chennai, in February. While the team was planning to resume the shooting in March, the plans had gone for a toss following the coronavirus outbreak and nationwide lockdown.

Now, reports have started to emerge that the makers are planning to shelve the project. The film has faced many hurdles including the make-up allergy for Kamal Haasan and the unfortunate crane accident.

Reports also add that Lyca is unhappy with the press statement sent out by Kamal Haasan asking the producers to audit the safety measures. It's rumoured that Lyca is currently undergoing a financial setback in the UK so they are planning to make a few changes in their ongoing production ventures.

The original plan of Lyca was to release Indian 2 for Pongal 2021 but due to the industry shutdown in the wake of COVID19 pandemic, even if they resume the shoot, the release will be pushed.

With so much investment made and also all issues sorted, the shooting of the film had been progressing at a brisk pace, we all hope for the film to be completed soon after the lockdown.

Kajal Aggarwal and Rakul Preet Singh are playing the female leads in the film, with actor Vivek sharing screen space for the first time with Kamal Haasan. Anirudh Ravichander will be scoring music for the film, which is produced by Lyca Productions.

We also hear that there will be budget cutdown in Lyca's big budget period action drama Ponniyin Selvan directed by Mani Ratnam.
