Director Mani Ratnam is currently working on his epic period flick, Ponniyin Selvan. The film is based on the Tamil literary novel of the same name, written by Kalki Krishnamoorthy and it is being made as one of the biggest projects in Indian cinema.
In a recent Instagram live session, Mani Ratnam confrimed that Ponniyin Selvan will be made in 2 parts.

Produced by Lyca Productions, in association with Mani Ratnam's home banner Madras Talkies, this historical epic film features an ensemble star cast including Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Trisha, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Vikram Prabhu, Ashwin Kakamanu, Sarath Kumar, Prabhu, Jayaram, Aadukalam Kishore, Rahman, Sobhita Dhulipala, Riyaz Khan, and others. The film also features veteran actor Mohan Raman in an important role.

Speculations were raising that Mohan Raman would be seen playing the character of 'Chinna Pazhuvettaraiyar' and the news was going rounds on social media. Reacting to the tweets based on the speculation, Mohan Raman replied he isn't allowed to say anything about his role in the film until its release. He tweeted, "As per my contract I cannot talk about the role etc..... So you can keep guessing and you will not get either a yes or a no from me. Ha ha ha. Thank you. Nothing is valid unless it is from Madras Talkies. That will only be official all else is speculation."

Isai Puyal A.R.Rahman will be composing the music, while Ravi Varman has been appointed to take care of the cinematography department. The epic's shooting will resume once the lockdown is uplifted and the situation gets back to normalcy.
