Director Gokul is working on the official Tamil remake of Malayalam hit 'Helen', starring Keerthi Pandian and her father Arun Pandiyan. Gokul almost wrapped up this women centric survival thriller and started working on his next.

The director's next will be 'Corona Kumar', a spin-off of his 2013 hit 'Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara' with Vijay Sethupathi and Nandita Shweta in lead role.

"The film will feature some of the most loved characters from the original film and what they are made to face during the lockdown," says Gokul. "The film was scripted during the lockdown period when, like many of us, I was glued to the news channels hearing about how things were changing drastically because of the coronavirus and what it did to people around the world. The film, though following the humorous take that Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara is known for, will also have an underlying message. At such testing times, we should be more disciplined and fearless, but unfortunately, we’re being fearful and less disciplined.", he added.

Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara (2013) is certainly a benchmark film in both Vijay Sethupathi and Gokul's career that defined the intrinsic mannerisms of the actor Vijay Sethupathi. The film that took the audience to a roller-coaster laugh ride, became a box-office success.

The promo of the project has been released by Vijay Sethupathi on his official Twitter handle. "Makkal happy annachi Here's the smashing title promo of @DirectorGokul upcoming comic riot - #CoronaKumar. A spin-off that will bring the roof down @sathishoffl @cinemawalaoffl @thinkmusicindia @PradeepERagav @sidvipin @palanibalan1 @proyuvraaj (sic)," wrote Vijay Sethupathi. The actor references “Makkal happy annachi”, one of his famous dialogues from 'Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara'.

The promo features director Gokul sitting in front of a table that was arranged with liquor bottles of various brands. Pouring some content from the bottle on to his hands, he says "We are short of sanitizers. Take this blue token and get the same blue sanitizers from the shop. Let us load it fully for we have to write in the night."
