Actress Jyotika has donated Rs 25 lakh to Thanjavur Government Hospital through her family owned 'Agaram Foundation'.
Earlier this year, Jyothika's old speech on the poor maintenance of the Thanjavur Government Hospital created a massive controversy. Jyotika, at an awards ceremony in Chennai, said that the building hospitals with necessary medical equipment and cleanliness is more important than donating to temples. She commented the hospitals should also be given equal importance as temples. Her explosive speech caused a huge stir on social media.
She addressed the issue after witnessing the poor maintenance of the Tanjore Government Hospital while shooting for her upcoming film with director Ra Saravanan. The yet-untitled film also has Sasikumar in an important role.
Post viral video of the speech, the district administration has roped in multiple departments to clean the premises of the medical institution, which, has led to the removal of 11 snakes from the hospital premises. This included two rat snakes, six Russel's vipers which are venomous and three worm snakes.
Now, Jyotika has donated Rs 25 lakh and some media equipment to Thanjavur government hospital. Apart from cash support, she has also contributed for medical equipment and beds. In addition, she took care of renovating the children's park in the hospital premises. Director Saravanan has handed over Jyotika's donation to Health Minister Vijaya Bhaskar.
Health Minister Vijaya Bhaskar and Tanjore Collector Govinda Rao appreciated the actress's noble gesture.
