Tiruppur Subramaniam slams Suriya for Sooarari Pottru’s release on OTT

Tiruppur Subramaniam slams Suriya
After getting mixed reactions from fans and movie enthusiasts for Suriya’s decision regarding his upcoming movie Sooarari Pottru’s release on OTT platform, now well known distributor and head of Tamilnadu Theatre owners association 'Thirupur' Subramaniam slams actor Suriya for his decision.

Theatres owners and distributors condemned and warned the actor-producer Suriya about banning his future films from releasing in theatres, when he announced “Ponmagal Vanthaal” under his banner is going to released on OTT. Now, Thiruppur Subramaniam came up with similar statement saying that the theatres of Tamil Nadu will prefer which movie to stream post lockdown as Suriya preferred OTT over theatres.

"When Ponmagal Vandhal was released on OTT, Suriya told me that he would consult distributors and theater owners before any such move in the future. But he didn't hold any such discussion for Soorarai Pottru. Let the theatres open after the pandemic. You are releasing your product (film) as you have rights over it. We will decide which hero’s film should show in our theatres post lockdown as we have complete rights over it" he said.

"We are not afraid of the growth of OTT platforms. It is this pandemic situation which worries us the lot. We are disappointed with Suriya's move. When theaters get reopened, people would visit only for films starring big stars. If all the big movies go to OTT, there is no point in reopening theaters.", said Subramaniam.

"Don't know the urgency behind this sudden move. Suriya is worrying that there is a marginal loss in his profit but we have been facing continuous loss since the lockdown", he said.

"Once the Government grants permission for film shoots, theaters will also open. Suriya is stating a lame excuse to release his film on OTT. The only reason for the OTT release of 'Soorarai Pottru' is money. Their only aim is to earn money." the distributor said.

Produced by Suriya's 2D Entertainment, Soorarai Pottru is the first big-budget Tamil film to skip theatrical release. Sudha Kongara of Irudhi Suttru fame has directed the film. Loosely based on Air Deccan Founder GR Gopinath's life, Aparna Balamurali plays Suriya's wife in the film which also has Mohan Babu, Karunas, and Urvashi in pivotal characters.
