Madras High Court stops Vishal's 'Chakra' OTT Release

Madras HC stays the release of Vishal's 'Chakra' on OTT as production house asks for settlement of loss from their previous film 'Action'
Vishal's upcoming cyber-crime thriller 'Chakra' is in trouble while the makers are planning to release the film in OTT platform. Vishal recently confirmed that talks are going on with the leading OTT platforms to release the movie directly on OTT.

Meanwhile Madras High Court issues returnable notices two days ago to actor Vishal and director MS Anandan based on a case filed by Trident Arts Productions. In a plea submitted to Madras HC, Trident Arts alleged that Vishal owed the production house Rs 8 crore, from the loss incurred from their previous film 'Action' directed by Sundar C.

Now the latest is that, on Thursday, the Madras High Court has stayed the release of his upcoming film Chakra on Over-the-Top (OTT) platforms. The next hearing on the matter is on September 30 and the court has held the film release until then. Meanwhile, the court also directed Vishal and Trident Arts to sort out the issue amicably.

Trident Arts Production had earlier said that Vishal had convinced the production house to make the film 'Action' at Rs. 44 crore and that he would bear the production cost if the film didn’t make Rs. 20 crore at the box office. The film didn’t do well and the production house alleged that Vishal owed them Rs. 8 crore.

To compensate the loss, Vishal and the production house seemed to have reached an agreement after Vishal had agreed to work on a film titled 'Chakra' with Trident Arts. However, the actor-director duo made Chakra with another producer, which was supposed to be produced by Trident Arts, said the counsel.

The trailer of 'Chakra ' was released recently in four languages including Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada. Besides producing the film, Vishal is playing the lead role too. The film features Shraddha Srinath and Regina Cassandra in important roles. Directed by debutant Anandan, Yuvan Shankar Raja is composing the music for the film and Balasubramaniem has cranked the camera.
