Vijay’s Neyveli selfie - Most retweeted photo of an actor in the country on twitter
Thalapathy Vijay’s Neyveli selfie becomes Twitter’s most retweeted photo of an Indian actor
Thalapathy Vijay and his movies have become a subject of controversy over the years. Recently, there has been a widespread notion over the tiff between Vijay and the ruling party both from central and state.
From Mersal to Bigil, actor Vijay may not have changed his stand on criticising the government a wee bit or refrain from making political statements.
At Bigil audio launch, controversy spontaneously evoked the support from the opposition parties is on techie Subashri who was killed in an accident after a hoarding fell on her. His remarks however did not go well with the AIADMK, which dismissed Vijay’s criticism as an attempt to get publicity ahead of a film’s release.
In 2017, when he criticised the newly introduced GST and Digital India programme, in his film Mersal, the BJP took strong exception and coerced the filmmaker to ensure appropriate changes in the film. But this did not deter the actor who took the AIADMK government head on in his Sarkar in 2018, which allegedly showed former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa in poor light. Later, the objectionable portions were deleted from the film.
In February 2020, Vijay was shooting for his film Master in Neyveli when the Income Tax Department rushed to the spot. Vijay was urged by the IT officials and taken to his Pannaiyur residence in Chennai citing an IT raid.
He had to cancel the shooting to complete the formalities in Chennai. The actor was not allowed to use his vehicle and hence forced to travel with the authorities. The I-T raid was in connection with the search that took place at AGS Enterprises and properties of financier Anbu Chezhiyan. During the time, Vijay received massive support from his fans.
The incident had created a furor among Thalapathy Vijay fans who strongly opposed the act on various online forums. It also created a debate in many mainstream Tamil media channels.
When he returned to Neyveli after wrapping up the formalities, he was welcomed by hundreds of fans.
Vijay was overwhelmed by the massive support he received at the Master shooting spot. He climbed on to the top of the bus that was parked near the shooting spot and waved at the enthusiastic crowd. He also took out his phone to take a selfie with his ardent followers.
The actor, who is not active on Twitter, took to the social media platform to share an epic selfie on February 10. The photo has received over 230k likes on Twitter. He wrote, "Thank you Neyveli (sic)"
Today, many Kollywood trackers have confirmed that the selfie has become the most retweeted picture of an actor in India. Followed by the record, a lot of fans revisited Twitter and commented on the photo. The picture has started going viral once again on Twitter.
