Vijay Sethupathi's 'Ka Pae Ranasingam' to set new records, says produder

Priced at Rs 199, Ka Pa is the first major south Indian film to opt for pay-per-view release on ZeePlex during this coronavirus pandemic

Vijay Sethupathi and Aishwarya Rajesh starrer 'Ka Pae Ranasingam' is one of the many films released directly on OTT platforms skipping the theatrical release aimd COVID-19 pandemic.

While several films released on OTT platforms like Amazon Prime Video and Zee5, 'Ka Pae Ranasingam' is the first film to release on pay-per-view model on the newly launched ZeePlex.  

The movie is available for viewing for a price of ₹199 on ZeePlex app or website, Zee5 and through channels on various dish services. Once the payment is made and the user starts the film, it is available for six hours.

With cinema halls shut for over six months now, the release and reception have been closely followed by industry insiders because of the uncertainty prevailing over theatrical releases.

Despite the initial disdain for the ₹199 pricing, Zee Plex managed to rope in 70,000 users who paid the amount to catch the movie on its opening day i.e. October 2, 2020. The movie have received rave reviews from critics and audiences. As per reports, 'Ka Pae Ranasingam' has earned over Rs 9.2 crore on the OTT with 470,000 bookings and counting as of Oct 7, 2020.

Directed by debut filmmaker Virumandi, Ka Pae Ranasingam is a social drama, that has Vijay in the role of a farmer and Aishwarya play his wife. The duo is seen standing up for the rights of farmers and how the corporate sector and politicians trample all over the sons of the soil for their personal gains and profits.

Talking about the film's reception, the producer of the film Kotpadi J Rajesh says, "We did have our doubts if this model could become financially viable. But surprisingly, this has surpassed all our expectations".

Rajesh did not give any definite numbers on how much the movie has earned on this new model, however he positive that it set a new records on earnings.

"I cannot disclose numbers because Zee has a non-disclosure policy. But based on our internal discussions with them, I can say with confidence that with just the Tamil language release (dubbed versions in Hindi, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam haven’t released yet) and the India DVD release (DVD release in other countries coming up in the next week or so), we’re already very positive that this film will set new records.”, he added.

The producer recently thanked the Tamil Nadu police for curbing the pirated copies and illegal telecast of their film on Cable TV. Besides the original Tamil version, the Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada dubbed version of the film will be releasing on ZeePlex and DTH from tomorrow, October 9.
