Salpetta is based on North Madras boxers of the 80s and Arya and Kalaiyarasan play boxers in the movie. First Look is expected to release on Diwali
Arya’s upcoming Tamil sports drama 'Salpetta' with director Pa Ranjith is one of the expected film in Kollywood after pictures of Arya's ripped physique went viral earlier this year.
The movie is about Arya, who plays a boxer from a backward community. The story is set in North Chennai, just like Pa Ranjith's previously movie 'Madras' with Karthi. This film will shine the spotlight on boxing clubs in North Chennai in early 80s.
Over the last one year, Arya has worked out hard to build a ripped body for his character in the movie. Recently the actor teased fans with his workout routine for the project with a tweet, in which he was doing a 150 kg squat look like a cakewalk.
Now we hear that the film's shooting has been wrapped up, with only five days of patchwork remaining. Meanwhile, Arya took to Twitter and shared photos from the set with the director. He has thanked Pa Ranjith calling it an amazing film and that he couldn't have asked for a better sports film in his tweet.
We also hear that the first look of the boxing-based political sports drama is expected to be revealed soon, which is expected to be on Diwali.
Produced by K9 Studios, the film has music scored by Santhosh Narayanan. Ranjith had originally planned this movie with Suriya, but for unknown reasons the plan didn’t materialize and Ranjith went ahead and roped in Arya.
Kalaiyarasan plays boxer in the movie. Actress Dushara Vijayan, who made her debut in Tamil with 'Bodhai Yeri Budhi Maari', is playing the female lead. Santhosh Prathap, who acted in Parthiban's 'Kathai Thirai Kadhai Vasanam' and John Kokke will be seen playing a pivotal role in the film.
Arya was last seen on screen in Magamuni, in which he played dual roles. He currently awaits the release of his film 'Teddy' directed by Sakthi Soundarajan, which also stars his wife Sayyeshaa. 'Teddy' is centred on a talking teddy bear and its relationship with a police officer, which rumoured to release on OTT platform.

The pictures in the sets of the film seems to be a rickshaw stand and a wall having posters of yesteryear films released during mid 70s, such as 'Kavikkuyil', 'Bhuvana Oru Kelvi Kuri', and 'Manmadha Leelai'.Thank u @beemji sir for this amazing film 😍🤗🤗 couldn’t have asked for a better sports film.
