Prakashraj receives V. Shantharam award
Prakashraj bagged the prestigious V. Shantaram awards for Kanchivaram in the best actor category. The actor meticulously played the role of an impoverished silk weaver in the film. Director Priyadarshan was honoured with the best director award for the same film. Priyan expressed his happiness at receiving his first best director award in his career spanning 27 years and 80 films. Rani Mukherjee received the best actress award for her role in Dil Bole Hadippa. Nandita Das received the award for best debutante director for Firaaq, while Irfan Khan and Anushka Sharma received the award for best newcomers for their roles in New York and Rab de Banadi Jodi.
