Year 2009 was very special to many in the industry. The high point was A R Rahman, making history by winning two Oscar awards. Quite a few artistes entered marital bliss. Honours, Awards, Appreciations all poured on the eligible lot. Here’s a look at the people who made news in 2009.

In February AR Rahman created history by winning two Oscar awards for Best Original score and Best Original song for Slumdog Millionaire. The award for Best Song ‘Jai Ho’ was shared by Rahman and renowned lyricist Gulzar. Ressul Pookutty also walked away with the golden trophy for Best Sound Mixing. AR Rahman’sEndhiran will be one of the biggest releases of 2010.

- In February Uyir Actress Sangeetha and June Ponal Singer Krish tied the knot. They fell in love while they were judging a television talent show together.
- In February Kavya Madhavan married Nishal Chandra at Kollur Mookambika Temple. However the marriage was on rocks with in five months of marriage. She is all set for a comeback in Pappy Appacha opposite Dileep in 2010..
- In March Madhumitha married actor Shiva in Hyderabad. Madhumita had a good 2009 with her performance in Yogi getting excellent reviews.
- In May ‘Sethu’ Abitha married T Geroge in Kottayam. Abitha made a successful career shift to television with Thirumathi Selvam serial.
- In June one of the most eligible bachelor of Tamil film industry Jeyam Ravi married his long time love Aarthi. Jeyam Ravi also made news for his spectacular performance in one of the path breaking films ‘Peraanmai’ in 2009.
- In July Meena married Vidyasagar, a software engineer from Bangalore. The popular heroine is expected to be back on screen in 2010.
- In August the celebrated couple Sonia and Selvaragavan filed their papers for divorce based on 'mutual consent'. Well wishers are still trying to make peace. Selvaraghavan will have a great 2010 as his magnum opus Aayirathil Orvan is scheduled for Pongal.
- In November Prakash Raj and his wife Lalitha Kumari's marriage was dissolved by the family court Chennai. Prakash Raj will make his directorial debut in Kannada in 2010.

- In December Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi distributed the 2007 and 2008 State film awards. Rajnikanth received the best actor award for 2007 for Sivaji and Kamal Hassan for 2008 for Dasavathaaram.
- In October Comedians Aarthi and Ganesh got married Kerala. The comedy pair has vowed to make it big in 2010 just as NSK-TA Maduram pair did in those years.
- In February Prabhu’s daughter Aishwarya entered into nuptial with her cousin Kunal in Chennai. Superstars Rajnikanth and Kamal Haasan were present to bless the couple.

- In August the 56th Ffilmfare awards were presented in a flashy event in Hyderabad. Sasikumar's Subramaniapuram, Varanam Aayiram romped home with top honours.
- In August Marathi director Paresh Mokashi was presented the 'Gollapudi Srinivas National Award' by actor Rekha for his Harishchandrachi Factory (Marathi), made on Dada Saheb Phalke in Chennai.
- In August A.R. Rahman received an honorary doctorate from Anna University along with Deputy Chief Minister MK Stalin in a special convocation ceremony.
