Sarathkumar wanted to be like MGR!
Sarathkumar is more than just a dialogue reciting actor and a sweet-talking politician! He is an intelligent man with an honest ambition to make a difference. While all of us prefer to sit on the sidelines and crib about the system, Sarath took the political plunge. He confesses that he went against his father's dream of making him an IPS officer and came into cinema with the dream of becoming like MGR, but unlike him, Sarath is not for using cinema to propagate his political policies. 'The political climate now is very different from when MGR got involved. It's a whole different ball game now. One cannot even begin to imagine the amount of money involved in getting through a single election! This was not the case in MGR's time. The people liked him, they believed in him and he managed to win over their votes. Today, I can gather a huge crowd to listen to my speech, but converting them to votes is another story altogether. But I'm sure that gradually, people will realise my vision. Bringing the youth into politics, convincing them that their votes can make a difference, is a big task.
