Solan, Himachal Pradesh: Self-styled godman Swami Nithyananda, who went into hiding after sex tapes featuring him surfaced, was on Wednesday arrested from Arki in Solan district of Himachal Pradesh.

The godman was arrested in a joint operation by the Himachal and Karnataka Police following a tip off about his hideout.

Nityananda, facing criminal charges, including that of rape, had been maintaining a very low profile - to avoid arrest – ever since the video forage showing him in a compromising position with a Tamil actress surfaced on March 2.

As per reports, the tainted godman offered no resistance and surrendered willingly to the police.

He will now be brought to Chandigarh and from there flown to Bangalore.

Nityananda had recently announced that he was quitting as the head of his ashram in Karnataka and associated trusts to lead a life of 'spiritual seclusion'.

He has been refuting all charges against him. He claimed that the images in the video have been morphed and he had not done anything illegal.

In his petition in the High Court, he alleged that one of his former disciples and driver Kurup Lenin (who he has claimed to have leaked the sleaze video) conspired to defame him and his ashram by levelling such charges against him.

The court termed as "unfounded" Nityananda's apprehension that he could be arrested and directed him to approach the proper forum to seek bail.

Nithyananda has been booked under various sections of IPC relating to deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religious beliefs, rape, unnatural sex, cheating, criminal intimidation and criminal conspiracy.

The latest on his end is the revelations made by his close disciple Mc Keller from the US. The man has actually filed a case with the California State attorney.

He alleged that Nityananda used to spend lot of hours with ladies in private and he used to refer to them as ‘flowers’. Keller also said that he used to stand guard since Nityananda said that they are in the middle of Puja and didn’t want any disturbance.
