Veteran Art Director Angamuthu passes away

Veteran Art Director Angamuthu who was a prominent technician in many of the MGR films passed away today August 3 in Chennai. He was 81. He is survived by two sons and five daughters. All the daughters are married. One of his sons Shanmugam is serving as an art director and also as the treasurer of FEFSI.

Art Director Angamuthu was active in the industry for over 50 years. He was a standard credit for many of the MGR films. One of his best movies was 'Ulagam Sutrum Vaaliban' directed by MGR. His art direction and superbly created sets for the film is talked about even today.

Being a close associate of MGR, Angamuthu served as the AIADMK President of Chennai region. He also served as an MLC and the Chairman of Slum Clearance Board under MGR regime. One of the biggest achievements of Angamuthu in politics is that he was the one who designed the present party flag of AIADMK when the part was founded in 1972 by MGR.

Angamuthu was also a film producer and have produced more than 10 films. He was also one of the founding members of FEFSI.
