Five demands from FEFSI

The Film Employees Federation of South India (FEFSI) has approached the Central government with five demands, which it feels would change the lives of film employees if accepted.
Speaking to reporters in Chennai Thursday, FEFSI president V C Guhanathan said they have approached Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi, Union Labour Minister Mallikarjun Kharge and Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Sonia in this regard.
"Steps should be taken to organise cinema and television sector. Eight hours a day should be fixed as the working time for film employees. Salaries should be raised at regular intervals. A pension scheme should be implemented. Every producer should obtain a certificate from FEFSI that they had settled all the payment dues to workers before the release of a movie", Guhanathan said, throwing light on their demands.
Expressing gratitude to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi for allotting land near Chennai for construction of houses to film employees, the FEFSI said they are planning to hold a rally from Kanyakumari and meet the Prime Minister in person to urge him to fulfill their requests.
