Tax exemption to tamil title films : Chief Minister came out with a clarification

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi came out with a clarification on Monday on the State government's decision to provide tax exemption to films which have titles in Tamil.
In a statement, he said the move was aimed at promoting Tamil in movies and at least, the proper noun of the title should be in Tamil. "Some producers and directors have not understood this," he said.
Films including 'Sivaji', 'Aegan', 'Boss Engira Baskaran', 'Goa' and 'Endhiran' were given the tax exemption on this basis, the Chief Minister said adding that the government is certainly not acting in favour of a section of film makers.
"A committee comprising Commercial Taxes Secretary, Tamil Development Secretary and Tamil Development Director took decisions on giving tax exemption to films," Karunanidhi said and denied reports in a section of the media attributing political motives to the sanction of tax exemption for certain films.
