Radha Mohan not discouraged by Kandahar failure
Director Radha Mohan, whose upcoming movie Payanam (Gaganam in Telugu) explores a plane hijack, has said that he is not discouraged with the failure of Kandahar, which explored a similar theme. Major Ravi’s bilingual Kandahar, starring Mohanlal was inspired from the infamous IC814 plane hijack in 1999. Though Kandahar followed an interesting story line, it failed to make an impact in the box office. Payanam, presenting a fictional plane hijack, is running a risk of being compared with Kandahar. Director Radha Mohan said that Payanam’s plot was based on various hijack incidents the world over. He also said that the movie concentrated more on the psyche of innocent hijack victims, and the pressure faced by commandos who risk their lives to rescue hijacked people. He added that the movie will discuss how bureaucratic lacunae can negatively affect crisis situations like these. This is also the comeback movie of actor Nagarjuna to Kollywood.
