Filmmaker Sri Balaji, once an associate of director Susindran had narrated the story of ‘Kullanari Koottam’ to Vishnu. Though it took a long time for the project to commence, Sri Balaji has made it happen now. It was expected that the film would be a romantic comedy as it was very much signifying with the posters. But what we watch on the screens turns out to be out of expectations. Of course, the film belongs to the genre of ‘romantic comedy’ all for the sake of name, but when it comes down the entire film, there is nothing much interesting to mark upon.
Vetri (Vishnu), MBA graduate is looking for his job and that’s the reason he is fondly called as ‘VETTI’. His father dead against the police and police station. That is the reason he doesn’t want his elder son to apply even for passport so that they would come for police verification at their house. As a recharging of mobile goes wrong, it results in the meeting of Priya (Ramya Nambeesan) and Vetri, which eventually turns into romance. But the problem comes through Priya’s dad, who is a military man and he wants his son-in-law to be either from military or police force and in contrast, Vetri’s dad is completely against his son wearing police inform. This results for the drama of Vetri and his gang of friends to come up with some plans.
Vishnu tries living up to the expectations as he has done his character on par with excellence. But he should really take up a movie like ‘Drohi’ that has lots of spaces to emote for. Ramya Nambeesan as a homely girl does justice to her role while rest of the other actors, most found familiar from ‘Vennila Kabadi Kulu’ are just with their amateurish performances.
On the technical front, Selvaganesh comes up with an impressive style of music. Cinematography need special mention for the locations of Madurai is spotted in different angles. The biggest minus of this movie is that there are interesting moments in second half. The first half is quite engrossing as there aren’t any songs except one that stands out as a best number.
As for whole, ‘Kullanari Koottam’ has nothing relevant between the title and theme.
