The Tamil version of Salman Khan's blockbuster hit Dabangg (which mean fearless in Hindi) has been titled as Osthi in Tamil. Simbu will play the role of Chulbul Pandey (made memorable by Salman Khan) in the Tamil version; Tollywood sensation Rich Gangopadhya is the heroine. Master of commercial entertainers Dharani will direct this action thriller and Thaman will compose the music. The film is produced by Mohan Apparao and T. Ramesh. Dharani has assured that the remake version will bear his signature style and will be made to suit local tastes. He further added that the film will be more an adaption than a frame-to-frame remake.

Director Dharani, who has given some super hit commercial entertainers to Tamil Cinema, is is all set to direct the remake of Salman Khan's 2010 blockbuster Dabangg in Tamil with Silambarasan and Richa in the lead. According to Dharani, the story of Dabangg is universal and he believes that the film will work big time as the mass audiences' taste and preferences are the same throughout the country. Earlier, Dharani had remade Ghilli from the Telugu Okkadu and it was a blockbuster. The remake version will bear his signature style and will be made to suit local tastes. He also assured that the film will be more an adaption than a frame-to-frame remake.
Kollywood producers Mohan Apparao and T. Ramesh have recently purchased the remake rights of Dabangg for a whopping amount, the highest ever paid for a remake. Thaman will compose the music.
