He is one of India's finest actors who is known to portray different roles attached with awestruck performance. He is none other than South side heartthrob Madhavan aka Maddy who celebrates his birthday today.

Madhavan Balaji Ranganathan popularly known as Madhavan was born on 1 June 1970 in Jamshedpur, India, to a Tamil-speaking family. His father, Ranganathan worked as a management executive with Tata Steel whilst his mother, Saroja was a manager with the Bank of India. Madhavan is not only limited himself for acting but also ventured into the streams related to the media like writer, producer, and television presenter. He pursued his degree in Electronics with the insistence of his parents but later started his career through TV AD commercials. His first commercial was sandalwood talc advertisement directed by Santosh Sivan, it was Santosh Sivan who introduced Maddy to Mani Ratnam.

Though he started his big screen career with Hindi but he got his identity through Mani Ratnam's film Alaipayuthey in 2000 which turned out to be a stupendous hit at the box office. It is his ‘boy-next-door’ image that has made him the superstar of the southern film industry. He has so far displayed his acting skills in seven Indian languages films.

He ventured into Bollywood with the film Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mei which also turned as hit. He strikes a right balance between classic and commercial cinema in a perfect manner.

Madhavan is currently involved in movies like Vettai and Athirshtasaali in Tamil while few Bollywood films are in discussion stage.
