For quite a longtime there is a buzz that Shankar is in plans of doing a sequel to his 1990s super hit Indian. It may turn up to be true as producer AM Ratnam is urging the director to start the second part of the film. But the director at present wants to concentrate on Nanban.

Director Shankar says "Producer A M Ratnam is asking me to do the sequel and let's see what will happen after Nanban. I am happy to see movement against corruption by anti corruption activist Anna Hazare. Now he is being referred as Indian Thatha, a character made memorable by Universal star Kamal Haasan. The support of the entire nation is behind him is great."

On speaking about Nanban Shankar said "Nanban is a light-hearted feel good entertainer which is inspired from Bollywood film 3 Idiots. I have made necessary changes in the script to strike a chord with Tamil audience. I enjoyed shooting for the movie. All the three lead characters played by Vijay, Jeeva and Srikanth have come out well. Especially Vijay's character will be loved by everyone".
