'Dirty Picture' banned in Pakistan

The Dirty Picture gets harsh treatment in Pakistan
The Dirty Picture revolving around the life of one and only Kollywood’s ‘item’ girl ‘Silk’ Smitha, released nation-wide last Friday. While the film opened to rave reviews and a good response at box office in India but the neighboring country has responded rather harshly.

The film, directed by Milan Luthria, has been banned from its theatrical release in Pakistan. The Censor Board officials in of Pakistan have banned the screening of the film in their territory as they feel that some ‘intimate’ sequences featuring Vidya Balan with Naseeruddin, Emraan and Tusshar are not ‘fit’ for general viewing.

Many Bollywood films have done very well in Pakistan and most of the Bollywood stars have considerable fan following in the country. It was planned to screen The Dirty Picture in as many as 50 halls across Pakistan. The plan is shattered with Pakistan banning the screening of the film.

The film stars the Palakkad-born Vidya Balan in Smitha’s role. Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah and Emraan Hashmi and Tusshar Kapoor play important roles in the film.
