With only few movies like Osthi, Rajapattai & Mamattiyan are left for this month/year release, anticipations running high for the movie lovers and fans on the 2012 releases. Nanban is an upcoming Tamil comedy drama film directed by S. Shankar. The film features an ensemble cast that includes Vijay, Jeeva, Srikanth, Sathyaraj and Ileana D'Cruz. The soundtrack and background score is by Harris Jayaraj, working with Shankar for the second time after Anniyan (2005). Filming began in March 2011 following a lengthy delay in casting. It is a remake of the 2009 Bollywood blockbuster film 3 Idiots, directed by Rajkumar Hirani, which was adapted from the novel Five Point Someone by Chetan Bhagat. The film will be dubbed into Telugu as 3 Rascals. The film is currently in post-production stage, set to release for 2012 Pongal


3 is an upcoming Tamil film directed by Aishwarya Dhanush, who makes her directorial debut with the film. It stars her husband Dhanush in the lead role, along with Shruti Haasan. The film which is produced by Dhanush's father Kasthuri Raja, features music scored by Anirudh Ravichandran while the cinematography is handled by Velraj. The film is currently in its production stage and is expected to release in January 2012


Maatraan is an upcoming Tamil action film directed and co-written by K. V. Anand and scripted by writers Subha. It stars Suriya, portraying five different roles, with Kajal Aggarwal playing the female lead, and features music by Harris Jayaraj. The film, produced by Kalpathi S. Aghoram, is currently in its production stage and slated to release in April 2012 as kollyinsider already reported.


Thuppakki is a forthcoming Tamil action-adventure film written and directed by A. R. Murugadoss. The film will star Vijay and Kajal Agarwal in the lead roles. Shooting is in progress and expected to release for summer 2012.


Billa II is a forthcoming Tamil gangster-thriller film directed by Chakri Toleti. It is a prequel to the 2007 film Billa and would focus on how David, an ordinary man from the coastal regions of South Tamil Nadu, becomes Billa, a dreaded underworld don, with Ajith Kumar reprising the role of the titular character. It also features Parvathy Omanakuttan, Bruna Abdullah, Vidyut Jamwal and Sudhanshu Pandey in supporting roles, all of whom making their debut in Tamil cinema. The film was officially announced in November 2010, with Vishnuvardhan as the director. Due to conflicting dates, Chakri Toleti replaced Vishnuvardhan, while a new script was penned by a team involving Toleti and Eric Felberg. Filming commenced in July 2011, with the film expected to release in early 2012.


Vettai is an upcoming Indian Tamil action film written and directed by N. Linguswamy, that stars Madhavan, Arya, Sameera Reddy and Amala Paul in the lead roles. The film revolves around two brothers settled in Thoothukudi, with the elder one working as a police officer. The film became announced shortly after the release of Lingusamy's Paiyaa, with Dhayanidhi Alagiri's Cloud Nine Movies agreeing to produce the film, following a successful collaboration during the director's previous film. During a lengthy pre-production phase, the film, however, underwent major changes in its main cast and Cloud Nine Movies stepped out of the project, with Linguswamy's own banner, Thirupathi Brothers, taking up the film. The shooting of the film, initially planned to begin by mid-2010, commenced in March 2011 eventually, and is set to release on 13 January, 2012 as kollyinsider already reported.


Kochadaiyaan is an upcoming 3D Tamil film to be directed by Soundarya Rajinikanth and written by K. S. Ravikumar. The film will feature Rajinikanth in the lead role with background score and soundtrack composed by A. R. Rahman. The film shoot haven't start yet, expected for August 2012 release.


Vishwaroopam is an upcoming bilingual spy thriller film to be written and directed by Kamal Haasan that features himself in the lead role. Other cast includes Pooja Kumar, Rahul Bose, Isha Sharvani, Andrea Jeremiah, Jaideep Ahlawat, Samrat Chakrabarti, Shekhar Kapur. It's being filmed in Tamil and Hindi. The film was planned to begin by mid-April and be completed within 100 days. Kamal therefore had signed the musical trio Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy, leading composers in Bollywood, for the music department, replacing Selvaraghavan's choice, Yuvan Shankar Raja. Later it was announced that Selvaraghavan was ousted from the project.


Neethaane En Ponvasantham is a forthcoming Tamil romantic drama film written directed by Gautham Menon, featuring Jiiva and Samantha in the lead roles. The venture is produced by Kumar and Jayaram of RS Infotainment and will have cinematography by M. S. Prabhu and music composed by Harris Jayaraj.This film is being simultaneously shot with the other two versions in Telugu and Hindi. The film is likely to be released on 14 February 2012, coinciding with Valentine's Day as kollyinsider already reported.


Thaandavam is an upcoming Tamil action film directed by A. L. Vijay. The film will feature Vikram, Anushka Shetty and Amy Jackson co-starring lead roles. It is produced by UTV Motion Pictures and features background score and soundtrack composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar. Yet to start the filming, expected to release late summer.


Vettai Mannan is an upcoming Tamil action film written and directed by debutante director Nelson. The film will feature Silambarasan, Jai, Hansika Motwani, Deeksha Seth and Poonam Kaur co-starring lead roles. It is produced by S. S. Chakravarthy and features background score and soundtrack composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja. The film is expected to be made in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi simultaneously, while casting is still undergoing, with the film expected to release in 2012.
