Actress “Silk Smitha” may not have got any noteworthy award in her 18-year-long career, but Bollywood star Vidya Balan has won a prestigious “Rajat Kamal” for re-living the seductive siren in celluloid.
“Kurmavatara,” directed by Girish Kasaravalli and produced by Basant Kumar Patil, won the best Kannada film award. Kasaravalli told Deccan Herald that the honour “has come as a reward for the hard work that went into making the film.”
National Film Award Feature Film Jury Chairperson Rohini Hattangadi announced the awards here on Wednesday.
Ekta Kapoor’s “Dirty Picture” not only won Vidya Balan the national film award for the best actress in the feature film category, but also gave its costume designer Niharika Khan and make-up artist Vikram Gayakwad an opportunity to bag the national awards for their outstanding contributions to the film. The best actor award went to Girish Kulkarni for Marathi film “Deool”, which is an authentic depiction of village life while also being a penetrating account on the commercialisation of religion.
“Byari”, the first movie made in Byari language, and “Deool” shared the best feature film award. “Deool” was produced by Abhijeet Gholap and directed by Umesh Vinayak Kulkarni while “Byari” was directed by Suveeram and produced by T H Althaf Hussain. The award carries a Swarna Kamal and a cash prize of Rs 2,50,000.
Onir’s “I Am”, a compilation four different stories about identity, bagged the best Hindi film award. It also won the national award in the best lyrics category for Amitabh Bhattacharya-written Agar Zindagi.
Tamil movie “Azhagarsamiyin Kuthirai”, produced by P Madan and directed by Suseentharan, was named for best film providing wholesome entertainment under feature film category. Its lead actor Appu Kutty won the best supporting actor award.
Hindi film “Chillar Party” bagged the best children’s film award.
