‘Nanban’ was a big success for Vijay. Shankar’s first remake venture and multi-starrer film Nanban that casts Vijay, Jeeva, Srikanth, Ileana and Sathyaraj in the lead roles.


And, the film has earned another honour for Vijay with the screening of the film at Salem Central Prison as a special arrangement for the inmates of the prison.

This is part of an initiative taken by the government to treat prisoners more humanely. Extra curricular activities are arranged once in a while to give them some release from the rigours of prison life.

With the success of this initiative the Department of Prisons has now planned such film screenings in other jails also.

Salem Central Jail authorities said, “Regularly we conduct curricular activities to reduce prisoners mental strain and about 250 inmates watched Nanban.” Nanban was about to be screened on Friday on the occasion of Ugadi, but due to technical reasons it happened on Sunday finally.

A list of good films that teaches good moral and provide nice entertainment are being prepared for screening in various prisons in Tamil Nadu.
