Most expected Tamil films yet to release for this year!

Upcoming Kollywood films this year! It’s going to be party time in Kollywood soon. A host of mega-budget movies starring the biggies are lined up for release, breaking the trend of the last couple of months when no big star film hit the screens. 

The last couple of successful films at the box office were Oru Kal Oru Kannadi starring Udhayanidhi Stalin, Hansika Motwani and Santhanam and Kalakalappu, directed by Sundar C. Saguni, which released last week, is yet to be declared a hit though its makers claim it as a blockbuster.Now that IPL and the summer vacations are over and students (the target audience) are returning to their colleges, there is a mad rush to release big films. 

According to industry pundits, over half-a-dozen movies which, all put together costs around Rs 300 crores, are set to hit the screens in the coming weeks. In the next couple of months, the likes of Billa 2, Maatraan, Viswaroopam, Vettai Mannan, Mugamoodi, Thuppaki, Thaandavam, Kochadaiyaan and Samar will release. Naturally, the film industry and theatre-owners are hopeful of a bountiful season ahead in Kollywood. Movie buffs are all agog, too.

Rajinikanth’s Kochadaiyaan
And Last but not the least, Superstar Rajinikanth’s Kochadaiyaan! Soundarya, daughter of Rajnikanth, who is directing Kochadaiyaan starring her father, Deepika Padukone, Jackie Shroff, Shobana and Sarath Kumar in lead roles, is planning a solo release post this Deepavali.

Viswaroopam
Is the ambitious project of Kamal Haasan, written, directed and enacted by him that’s releasing this July. Pooja Kumar, Rahul Bose, Andrea Jeremiah, Shekhar Kapur and Jaideep Ahlawat are playing prominent roles. Music is by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, with lyrics by Vairamuthu. It is said that the movie dwells on a global theme (international terrorism).

Billa 2
There are high expectations for Billa 2 which stars Ajith amd Parvathy Omanakuttan in lead roles. Directed by Chakri Toleti, the movie is a prequel to the actor’s earlier hit Billa. Made on a huge budget, the movie promises to make an impact at the box office.

Thuppakki
Vijay’s much-awaited Thuppakki, directed by A R Murugadoss is nearing completion. With Kajal Agarwal playing the female lead, the movie is being shot in Mumbai and is scheduled for a September release.

Maatran
Brings together Suriya, director K V Anand and music composer Harris Jayaraj after Ayan. Produced by AGS Entertainment, the movie features Kajal Agarwal opposite Suriya.

Vettai Mannan
The action thriller directed by Nelson has Simbu, Jai, Hansika Motwani, Deeksha Seth and Poonam Kaur in lead roles. The movie is touted be one of Simbu’s costliest movie ever with a budget of about Rs 40-50 crore. The film went on floor in April 2011 but the release date is not yet confirmed.

Thandavam
With Vikram, Amy Jackson is due release post September, if things go according to plan. The film also has Anushka Shetty playing a doctor. Ace actor Santhanam is enacting the character of an illegal immigrant in London, while Telugu actor Jagapati Babu is the antagonist in Thaandavam. The mega budget movie is simultaneously being made in Telugu as well.

Mugamoodi
Is a superhero movie with Jiiva and Pooja Hegde. Expected to release by August 31st, 2012, the film is about a man who cannot tolerate injustice and corruption and fights against it for a better society.
