The 59th Filmfare Awards was a star-studded affair. Lighting up the evening were a number of celebrity performances.
Shruti Haasan kicked it off with a scintillating dance number to tunes from Gabbar Singh, 7 aam arivu, and a couple of others. Complete with fantastic costume changes, she had the crowd begging for an encore. Apart from that, she made dad Kamal Haasan proud.
Priyamani and Sanjana kept the mood up as they worked their curves to a jugalbandhi of the songs Poovai Poovai, Diva Diva, Aaranu Nee, Kalasala, Gangave Bagi, Mylapura Mylari and Pankaja. With such a mix, it was one helluva number!
Richa Gangopadhyay, Rima Kallingal and Poorna Jagannath followed suit and wowed the audience.
But it was Tamannaah who stole the spotlight. She recently wowed at the MAA TV Awards and she bettered it this time.
Will Dhanush ever be free of his Kolaveri tag? We doubt it. He was asked to croon the global hit song for the audience who are yet to outgrow it.
So yes, in the midst of all the celebration and victory, these stars made sure that everyone had a big party!
Descending on the red carpet were a host of stars from the Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam film industry.
As is the case with any awards ceremony, it's the red carpet that ushers in the big evening. This time, Nayantara caught our eye. The actress is making her way back into the spotlight after her brief retirement and split from Prabhudeva. She wore a silk, sleeved black anarkali with a Chinese collar.
The other eye-catcher on the red carpet was Tamannaah. She stepped it up in a blue fish-tail gown. We're not too kicked about the texture or the shimmer. But we like that she tried something different.
Most of the women opted for gowns or saris. But Trisha went for the short & sweet look in a printed mini with an asymmetrical hem. What are the chances that it was designed by friend Sidney Sladen?
Pinks and blacks ruled the red carpet as expected. As for the men, they stuck to dapper suits while some like Kamal Haasan and Dhanush went the casual route.
