He is what a true artiste should be like- extremely dedicated, incredibly talented and exceptionally humble. Kamal Haasan, the powerhouse of super talent turned a year ‘younger’ today!

Actor Kamal Haasan celebrates his birthday on November 7. As he turns 58 this year, the veteran actor is once again reinventing himself through a challenging role in his upcoming film 'Viswaroopam'. The actor, who debuted as a child artist in 1959, is considered one of Indian cinema's greatest contemporary actors.

Haasan, who happens to be the only celebrity to have turned his fan club into a social service centre, had earlier pledged to donate his organs to medical students for research last year. He is a philanthropist who takes an active part in a lot of social welfare activities.

When the six-year-old Kamal Haasan first appeared on screen singing 'Ammavum Neeye Appavum Neeye...', the Kollywood of 1960 could not have realised that it was witnessing the rise of one of its greatest superstars to date.

Kamal is now synonymous with innovativeness, and is known for being a habitual experimenter in both reel and real life.

Even as we post this, the superstar is busy planning his magnum opus 'Vishwaroopam'.
Here is a pictorial tribute to the 'Ulaga Nayagan', who turns 58 today.

Kamal Haasan debuted in films with A Bhimsingh's 'Kalathur Kannamma'. He completed 50 years in films in 2009.

Kamal shared a great on-screen chemistry with Sridevi. The talented duo starred in several superhits, including 'Sigappu Rojakkal' (1978), 'Kalyanaraman' (1979), 'Guru' (1980) and 'Moondram Pirai' (1982).

In 1995, Kamal Haasan remade Govind Nihalani's 'Drohkaal' into Tamil as 'Kuruthipunal'. The PC Sriram film was a blockbuster.

Kamal was last seen in the 2010 flop 'Manmadan Ambu'.
Kamal will be seen next in 'Vishwaroopam'.

Kamal on 'Vishwaroopam': ''Vishwaroopam' revolves around a marriage of convenience and the desire of the wife to spy on her dancer husband to find an excuse to leave him. This results in wires getting cross connected and all hell breaks loose. 'Vishwaroopam' is something that has been in my mind for nearly seven years. I hope it stays in my audiences' mind for at least half that time.'

'Lord of the Rings' producer Barrie Osborne has, reportedly, roped in Kamal for a Hollywood venture.

Daughter Shruti has already made her debut in films. Her sister Akshara choreographed a song for 'Unnaipol Oruvan'.

Kamal commands one of the biggest fan bases down South. For his fans, he is Mr Perfect: A quality performer who can act, dance, fight and sing with amazing ease. In addition, he has the charm and charisma to pull in the crowd!
