V N Chidamabaram (76), owner of Kamala Cinemas in Vadapalani in Chennai passed away in Madurai due to ill-health at a private hospital this morning.


V N Chidambaram, the proprietor of Kamala Theatre and a popular personality of Tamil film industry, passed away in Madurai this morning.

The 76-year-old is survived by three sons and other family members. Chidambaram was married to Kamala and hence named the theatre after her. His last rites will be performed at his native village Rangiyam in Pudukottai on Sunday.

Chidambaram, who shared a close rapport with top guns of Tamil cinema and politics, was close to former Chief Minister M G Ramachandran and legendary actor Sivaji Ganesan.

He also occupied a key post in the administration board of Madurai Meenakshi temple. An actor as well, Chidambaram played a crucial character in last year release 'Thoonga Nagaram'.
