2012 has been favourable for the bunch of exceptional films that didn’t have anything to do with commercial elements, but yet had a commendable reception amongst the universal audiences.
The year has witnessed the arrival of decorous filmmakers like Gauri Shinde, who touched the unexplored genre of films in Indian film industry. One of the other spectacular highlights of these best films is that each one had a prominent role for female characters apart from the protagonists.

Barfi - Recently, a famous quote by Charlie Chaplin has been generating huge waves of reception that reads Life laughs at you when you are unhappy, life smiles at you when you are happy. But life salutes you when you make others happy. Well, Anurag Basu had a similar phrase to shoot a line on this film – When things aren’t good in life, Just be Barfi. Wow! The film just left a strong message of seeking happiness from small things, when thing are terribly bad. While Ranbir Kapoor swept us on our feet with his overpowering performance with Rockstar, he showcased a different dimension in Barfi. Well, the award ceremonies have already got the red carpets spread out for him. Not to miss the heart-touching performance of Priyanka Chopra and Ileana D’ Cruz.

Talaash – Just observe his transitional endeavour in every film. While watching ‘Talaash’, he completely lets us forget the shades of his previous roles in ‘Ghajini’ and ‘3 Idiots’. Precisely, he is proving to be the next Kamal Haasan of Indian Cinema. The actor exhibited so much of top-notch performance with his emoting panache. As a cop trailing behind the secret on an investigation and as a father with dark past, Inspector Shekhawath makes you feel the emotions he goes through in every moment of film. Hats off to Reema Kagti, Farhan Akhtar, Zoya Akhtar and Anurag Kashyap! They made the film groovy in every aspect.

English Vinglish – A comeback by Sridevi for more than a brand to keep the eyes hooked onto the film. But guess what? The film had something beyond such factors to offer something special for the audiences. Debutant Gauri Shinde had a catchy theme to offer that revolves around a house wife (played by reigning queen Sridevi). The characterization and a feel-good screenplay laced with humour and emotions had it all to embellish the film.

Gangs of Wasseypur – You need not teach Anurag Kashyap to make a film based on gangsters. But the director had humbly admitted that ‘Subramaniapuram’ was his inspiration to make the film ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’. The screens were drenched in thick-bloodshed, but had the sprinkles of humour everywhere. The dialogues were the absolute punch and the characters were so intense in both the instalments (Gangs of Wasseypur 1 & 2).

Kahaani – The missy wasn’t getting herself succumbed to commercial cinemas and has been too choosy over picking the projects. Soon after bagging National award for her salient performance in ‘Dirty Picture’, the actress geared up with ‘Kahaani’, a film that kept the audiences on edge-of-seat from beginning till end. The climax was so incredulously stunning as it created a sense of huge applause and blatant whistles for the unexpected twist.

Shanghai – Not everyone in Bollywood loves to make political thrillers. Thanks to Dibakar Bannerji for making a thriller like ‘Shanghai’ laced with suspense elements. With the film revolving around three characters (played by Kalki, Emraan Hashmi and Abhay Deol), screenplay and dialogues became the nitty-gritty elements that kept the audiences completely engrossed from beginning till end.

Vicky Donor – It’s not an easy concept to make a film based on ‘Sperm Donation’ as it involves a lot of adult quotients. But the makers have made it convincingly with humorous touch.
