Mani Ratnam’s Kadal, which started its shooting in March 2012, is all set to hit the screens on February 1, 2013. The film will be dubbed and released in Telugu as ‘Kadali’ on the same day.

“Kadal” is one of the most anticipated movies in the Kollywood film industry of this year. The makers initially planned to release the film by the end of this year.

As many big movies including Kamal Hassan’s Vishwaroopam are releasing in the first month of the year 2013, January, the makers of the film pushed the release of the upcoming Tamil film to February.

Kadal marks the debut of Gautham Karthik, son of actor Karthik and Tulasi Nair, second daughter of yesteryear actress Radha. Tulasi was roped in the film after Samantha rejected to act in the film due to date issues.

The forthcoming movie brings together once again ace director Mani Ratnam and Oscar award-winning music composer AR Rahman. Kadal album comprising of seven tracks, was released in the market directly a few days back. Already, all the tracks have been appreciated by fans and have become chart-busters. The songs were penned by Vairamuthu, Madan Karky, and Aaryan Dinesh Kanagaratnam.

Kadal is a love story set in a coastal village, where there are tensions prevailing over fishermen going missing in the high tides of the ocean. The movie is mostly shot in Andaman and South Tamil Nadu. The film also has Arjun, Sarja, Lakshmi Manchu and Aravind Swamy in important roles. Rajiv Menon has handled camera.

Mani Ratnam’s previous flick “Raavan” was a flop, in spite of roping in big star cast such as Vikram, Aishwarya Rai, Abishek Bachchan and Prabhu in lead roles. The director did Raavan with huge expectations. After experiencing disappointment in his last film, Mani has strived hard in his latest flick, ‘Kadal’, to prove himself with this film.
