Kamal Haasan has confirmed at a meeting of producers on Wednesday (Dec 5) evening at Film Chamber in Chennai that his magnum opus Vishwaroopam will be shown on DTH platforms. Kamal has roped in major operator Airtel DTH for the the simultaneous release on DTH along with the the theatrical release.

Kamal Haasan who is working on the release of his magnum opus ‘Vishwaroopam’, is sure of releasing the film in television first. The actor has confirmed the same to the Tamil Film Producer’s Council and is busy in the works.

According to Kamal Haasan’s plan, the film will be released in TV, 8 hours before being released in theaters. This will be the first time in Indian cinema industry a film getting released in small screen before silver screen.

The film’s telecast rights have been sold to an important DTH service operator, who will sell (distribute) it to the other established DTH service providers. Kamal Haasan will be sharing the profit with the DTH operators.

The film’s sources say that, this method will earn the producers a huge amount of money since millions of TV viewers will get to watch the film at the same time. Moreover, the DVD piracy will also be eradicated upfront. Kamal Haasan has also decided to release the film only in the available theaters.

Kamal Haasan, who held a meeting with the Tamil film producer’s council on the 5th of December, has clearly mentioned that a producer of the film has the rights to distribute it and hence his decision will be final.

Meanwhile the Tamil Nadu theatres are not taking it lying down. They have called for an emergency meeting of the association today and will take a call. Abirami Ramanathan said "We are holding an extraordinary meeting tomorrow to discuss this Vishwaroopam on DTH issue."
