Kamal Haasan’s Vishwaroopam has been in the news for various reasons and the latest is about his plan to have a DTH premiere for the magnum opus.
While the theatre owners are up and against the move, the actor has come out with a clarification on the same.

In a statement, Kamal has said that by premiering the film on DTH, the theatre owners will not be affected by any means. He said that he is targeting the DTH users in Tamil Nadu who make about 3% and of which he is expecting only 1.5 % of the users to pay and view the film. According to Kamal, the people who might watch the film are normally those who do not go to theatre either due to lack of time or interest and hence this is a way by which at least some of them can be made to watch the film. By this he expects that the producer will be benefitted to a small extent. For watching the film on DTH, one has to pay Rs 1,000 and the film can neither be recorded nor be reproduced later.

He said that whenever there’s a move towards innovation, the hue and cry by some section of the people is common and it cannot deter him. He also pointed out that the same section of people do nothing much to prevent piracy of films, which cause huge losses to the producer. The film, written, directed and acted by Kamal Haasan will be released by Rajkamal films. Kamal also added that some muslim organizations thinging that Vishwaroopam will hurt muslim sentiments, but after seeing the film muslim friends will regret on their wrong judgement on Vishwaroopam. on a funny note he said that I don't want them to regret alone instead they should arrange a biriyani feast for me and I cannot eat all the food hence they should also serve it to to the needy people on next Bakrit.

The film's audio launch was held on Dec 7 at three cities and the album is heading for record sales, he added.

In the meantime, the Tamil Film Producers are meeting tomorrow at 10.30 am at Film Chamber to debate and discuss on the issue.
