Chennai Express eyes 3 Idiots’ all-time record

Chennai Express
Shahrukh Khan’s Chennai Express continues to shatter records with every passing day. After its first week, the film netted 156.70 crores at the domestic Indian box-office and this mark is the highest till date. In overseas markets, the story was similar as the first week gross was 72 crores, which is another ‘highest’.

Now, despite the release of Akshay Kumar’s OUATIMD on August 15th, Chennai Express is continuing to register good occupancies, though on reduced screens. After opening on August 9th in about 3500 screens, Chennai Express is now being shown in around 1600 screens with OUATIMD getting 2500 screens.

On its second Friday and Saturday, Chennai Express has netted close to 15 crores approx, thereby taking its total domestic net to more than 170 crores already. It’s likely that the film will breach the 200 crores net mark and challenge 3 Idiots’s status as the biggest box-office grosser ever.
