It’s not just popular songs or dialogues that Kollywood filmmakers are cashing in on to name their films.Words from classical works are catching on too.With KV Anand titling his forthcoming Dhanush-starrer as Anegan, drawing inspiration from Thiruvasagam, Chennai Times takes a look at how classical seems to be the way to go…

ACTOR: Rajinikanth FILM: Kochadaiiyaan This historical, which has been partly inspired by the life of the Pandya king, Kochadaiyan Rana Dheeran, gets its name from this name of Lord Shiva. The word means ‘king with long, curly chada mudi (mane)’.

ACTOR: Dhanush FILM: Anegan Meaning ‘multiple single person’, this title is said to be about what the lead character (played by Dhanush) stands for. Its director KV Anand has spun interesting titles before as well — Maattraan, meaning alternate, and Ko, meaning king.

ACTOR: Kamal Haasan FILM: Moo The Ulaganayagan has already hinted his intention at naming his next film Moo. The actor stated that, “The Tamil language has this beauty about it – you can tell a word in one syllable, like nee, naan, thee.” So, Moo (which also denotes three) it will be for him.

ACTOR: Vikram FILM: Ai This forthcoming film, directed by Shankar, has a unique title. Its meanings are varied – Ai means king, beauty, astonishment, guru, vulnerability, owner and arrow. It’s said that the filmmaker opted for this title as it explains all the characteristics of the protagonist.

ACTORS: Siddharth and Prithviraj FILM: Kaaviya Thalaivan This historical is reportedly based on the life of SG Kitappa and KB Sundarambal. Directed by Vasanthabalan, the title refers to the lead characters of a classical work.
