Director Raghavan is confident that his forthcoming film Manjapai, starring Vemal, Lakshmi Menon and Rajkiran in the lead, will restore the stature of the famous ‘manjapai’. He says, “The ‘manjapai’ (yellow bag) was something that was looked upon with respect during old times. Many used to take invitation cards and money in it. But now, it has become a derogatory term that’s used to refer to naive villagers. My film is about a guy who comes down to Chennai with the ‘manjapai’. I’m sure the film will restore its status.”

The shooting for the film is almost complete, with just two songs remaining to be shot. “Ghibran has composed the songs, and we will shoot the two numbers in Pollachi and Chennai. The film has comedy and romance in equal proportions, and Rajkiran will be seen playing a role that he has not done before,” he adds.
