After playing character roles for the last three years, actor Sarath Kumar is now playing the lead again.

He will be playing a cop in the upcoming film Velachery, which is directed by debutant Vendhan, and has Ineya playing the female lead. The film is said to be based on a real encounter that happened in Velachery.

Says Sarath, “After taking up a few supporting roles, I was being offered a lot of similar roles. But, I was waiting for a good script that had me playing the lead. Velachery is one such interesting story and I really didn’t want to miss it.”

Talking about the film, the shoot of which is currently happening in the city, he says, “I play an encounter specialist in the film. Apart from the action, the story also has a lot of emotional moments woven into it; Vendhan has explored how a cop’s family reacts to these encounters. I am actually thrilled to play this role and have toned up my body for the character.”
