Dhanush smokes his way into trouble!

Dhanush’s Velai Illa Pattadhari (VIP) is turning out to be a blockbuster. But it has created a smoking controversy. In the posters of the film, Dhanush is shown smoking.

The Tamil Nadu Forum for Tobacco Control (TNPFTC) has approached the state health ministry and Central Board of Film Censors (CBFC), condemning the posters of VIP.

The movie can be booked for violation of Cigarettes and other Tobacco Products Act of 2003, which prohibits the direct and indirect advertisement of cigarettes.

Cyril Alexander of TNPFTC said:”We are shocked to see a popular actor like Dhanush violating the tobacco control health policy. And more shocking is that the censors has given a U certificate and allowed posters with hero smoking. The state government should remove all posters and publicity material showing Dhanush smoking”.

The anti-tobacco lobby is very powerful in Tamil Nadu. Remember it has stopped superstar Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Ajith , Vijay and Suriya smoking on screen. Rajini announced after Baba released in 2001 that he would never smoke on-screen and kept his word .
