Kollywood shuts down for Amma

There will be no show or shooting today (Sep 30) in Tamil film industry. All shows stand cancelled at movie theatres across Tamil Nadu in solidarity with the AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa, now lodged in a Bangalore jail.

Kollywood has decided to show its support for the Tamil Nadu's ex-chief minister. Last Saturday, she was convicted by a Bangalore court in a disproportionate assets case.

Tamil Nadu Film Exhibitor Association was the first one to come out with the cancellation of morning and matiness shows for today. Rest of the industry associations – Tamil Film Producers Council, Directors' Union, South Indian Film Artists' Association and FEFSI have announced
their support

A day's "silent hunger strike" will be observed by the members of all the Tamil industry associations. A joint action committee of all nine industry bodies said: "We are saddened by the Special Court's judgement and film shooting would cease and theatres would be shut during their fasting period."
