The Tamil Nadu Theater and Multiplex Owners Association has decided to ban films starring Suriya as well as the films produced by his production company 2D films in theater after the lockdown.

The decision comes after the news broke that the film "Pon Magal Vandhal", produced by Suriya and starring his wife Jyothika, will be released directly on a popular OTT platform - Amazon Prime, bypassing traditional theatrical release.

About Suriya's decision to release "Pon Magal Vandhal" on OTT, source in the film trade said "Given the scenario, the chance of a small-budget film succeeding when theatres reopen is tricky. If producers are taking a decision that keeps them financially safe, then releasing the film on a streaming platform would work."

Everyone is wondering if the decision will adversely affect the release of the much-awaited upcoming film "Soorarai Pottru". Suriya starrer Soorarai Pottru directed by Sudha kongara, music composed by GV Prakash and this movie which also stars Aparna Balamurali, Paresh Rawal and Mohan Babu is based on the life of Air Deccan founder GR Gopinath.
