'Ponmagal Vandhal' releasing in Amazon Prime on May 29th

We all know that 'Ponmagal Vandhal' is going to hit OTT platform Prime video directly by skipping theatrical release. After the decision by the makers of the film, Suriya's 2D Entertainment, theatre owners are worried about losing revenues and they even decided not to screen any Suriya movies in future.

No wonder producers have come out in support of Suriya, producers feel that it helps the small and medium budget movies to release their movies on OTT platforms considering the kind of large audience they get. Besides, expecting to fight it out with the biggies to gran screens would be difficult.

Ponmagal Vanthal, directed by debutant JJ ​​Frederick, is a courtroom drama starring Parthipan, Jyothika, K Bhagyaraj, Pandiyarajan, Thyagarajan and Pratap Pothan. Though it was initially said that Ponmagal Vandhal will stream online on Amazon Prime from first week of May 2020, but due to the issues raised by Tamil Nadu Theatre Association it was postponed to later date.

Reports now say the the movie is releasing as a treat for Ramadan which comes on 24th (Sunday) May 2020. With movies releasing on every Fridays, Ponmagal Vandhal is expected to release on Friday 22nd May 2020 on Amazon Prime.

Update: Producer of the film and husband of the lead star 'Jyothika', actor Suriya confirmed that the movie is directly releasing on Amazon Prime on May 29th. The star posted the news in twitter saying "We are excited and cant wait for you all to watch #PonmagalVandhalOnPrime from 29th May. She isn’t afraid to fight for what is right!"
