Lokesh Kanagaraj to direct a political thriller with Kamal before Rajini
Young director Lokesh Kanagaraj strong debut with anthology film 'Maanagaram' which was a great sucess and then he gave critically acclaimed blockbuster 'Kaithi' with Karthi.

His sucess took him to the next level by signing 'Master' with one of the A-listersof Kollywood, Thalapathy Vijay and managed to cast Vijay Sethupathi to play the main antagonist.

We already reported that the young director got a jackpot in directing Superstar Rajinikanth to be produced by Kamal Haasan. Kamal Haasan's Raj Kamal Films International has signed Lokesh to direct Superstar Rajinikanth's 169th movie, 'Thalaivar 169' with Rajini in the lead role.

Now looks like Lokesh won another jackpot. Per the latest reports, Lokesh Kanagaraj is going to direct a political thriller with Kamal Haasan before directing Superstar. Said to a quickie, Kamal has now asked Lokesh Kangaraj to write a new script for him, which is expected to start by January 2021 and the makers are planning to relase the film ahead of 2021 Tamil Nadu assembly elections.

It is well known that Kamal has his own political party and planning to contest in the upcoming assembly elections, a release right before the elections seems like a masterplan. The rest of the cast and crew are yet to be finalised and an official confirmation regarding the same is awaited.

It makes sense as Kamal wants to utilize the gap Lokesh has between already completed 'Master' and yet to start 'Thalaivar 169', for which Superstar cannot join the shoot until completing the shoot of 'Annatthe'. 'Annatthe' shoot stalled due to the pandemic situation and per latest reports the release has been postponed to Pongal 2021 or Summer 2021.

Apart from this movie, Kamal will be playing the lead in ‘Indian 2’, directed by Shankar. The movie is the sequel of the 1996 blockbuster film ‘Indian’. The mega project is bankrolled by Lyca Productions and an update regarding the progress of the movie is awaited. He will also soon commence working on his pet project 'Thalaivan Irukkiraan'.
