One of the most anticipated Kollywood films, Chiyaan Vikram starrer 'Cobra' went on the floors in August 2019 and the makers initially planned to release the film this year.

The film is directed by Ajay Gnanamuthu of Demonte Colony and Imaikka Nodigal fame and is produced by Lalith Kumar.

Since the film shootings have been came to a standstill due to the lockdown, many producers were facing losses. Director Ajay Gnanamuthu, Vikram and the rest of the cast and crew members of the film were shooting in Russia when the Indian government imposed nation-wide lockdown. Hence, the shooting came to a halt with only a few days of the shoot left.

Last month, Cobra producer, Lalit Kumar and other top producers sought permission from Tamil Nadu Minister to resume the shooting. But the minister denied permission to resume shootings of films, so the director of the film, Ajay Gnanamuthu, recently decided to take a 40 percent pay cut to support the producer.

Meantime, now with the situation getting back to normalcy and government's permission to resume the film shoots, it is expected that the shoot might resume shortly.

According to latest reports, the makers are planning to release the film on April 17, 2021 for the special occasion of Vikram’s birthday. Earlier there were buzz that the makers were planning to have a Christmas December, 2020 or Pongal January, 2021 release. With only 40 days of shoot left and leaving room for post-production work, if the shoot starts in October, there are chances the movie may hit the screen for Pongal 2021, provided theatres are open.

The film also has Srinidhi Shetty, KS Ravikumar, Indian cricketer Irrfan Pathan, Anand Raj, Mirnalini Ravi, Mamukkoya and Mohammad Ali Baig will be seen in prominent roles.

The hardcore fans of Chiyaan Vikram had kept their excitements spiked up and awaiting the release of the movie.
