Prabhakaran's biopic 'Seerum Puli' back to schedule

Almost two years ago, Bobby Simha has been signed to play Velupillai Prabhakaran in the biopic of the leader of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) titled 'Seerum Puli'.

The makers also released first-look poster of the film, featuring Bobby Simha as Prabhakaran, clad in his military uniform but the movie never saw the light of the day.

Directed by Venkatesh Kumar G, a student of late cinematographer and filmmaker, Balu Mahendra, now it is being said that the project is gearing up to go on floors soon. Venkatesh Kumar is known for his work on 'Unakkul Naan', 'Lightman' and 'Neelam'.

Earlier Venkatesh Kumar's 'Neelam', was banned by the CBFC as it was based on the Sri Lankan Civil War and the board thought that the film might affect the India-Sri Lanka relationship.

'Seerum Puli' will reportedly trace Prabhakaran's life, from his birth, in detail. The director has earlier revealed that he is planning to make the biopic in two parts. The first part of the film will cover the early years of Prabhakaran and show how a student turned into a rebel and then became a leader, while the second part will cover his war for the cause of Tamil Eelam.

Produced by Studio 18, the makers are yet to disclose the principal cast and crew of the film. Prabhakaran was the founder of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), the Tamil militant organisation that fought for the establishment of Eelam - an independent Tamil state in Sri Lanka. Prabhakaran was killed by the Sri Lankan army in 2009.
